Every year as summer approaches, the same scenario plays out. You take your hand pump<\/b> out of the garage, you pump and nothing comes out. Or almost nothing. The pump draws but no longer delivers water correctly. Why your hand pump no longer pumps: the dome leather seal problem<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

On a hand pump or reciprocating pump<\/b>, sealing is ensured by dome seals and piston seals<\/b>. These parts work in reciprocating motion with each pump stroke. When they work well, they create the vacuum necessary to draw up water and bring it to the outlet. When they are worn, dry or cracked, sealing is no longer ensured. The pump draws in air instead of water. You pump for nothing. This is the most frequent failure on this type of equipment and also the simplest to resolve. You simply need to replace the leather seals<\/b>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Dome leather seals for hand pumps: why leather and not rubber?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Leather is the historical material for hand pump seals, and for good reasons. Its natural flexibility<\/b> allows it to adapt perfectly to the pump cylinder walls, even when the dimensions are not perfectly regular. It absorbs a little humidity in contact with water and swells slightly, which strengthens the sealing rather than compromising it. It withstands repeated reciprocating movements without lasting deformation or tearing. And unlike rubber, it does not degrade rapidly in contact with water. We also apply our Janiflon<\/b> treatment to these seals to make them hydrophobic<\/b> and ensure them even better durability over time.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

If you have your old seal to hand, note the inner diameter, the outer diameter and the thickness<\/b>. If your seal is too damaged to take measurements, note the dimensions of your pump cylinder. You send us this information and we manufacture the corresponding part. No minimum quantity. If your seal is so worn that you can no longer take measurements from it, here is how to provide us with the information we need. Note the inner diameter of your pump cylinder<\/b> \u2014 this is the most important measurement. Also note the chamber depth<\/b> if you can access it. Send us these measurements with a photo of your pump if possible. We look at your need and propose the appropriate part. If you have any doubt about which measurements to take, call us directly.
